About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Chicago on Michigan Avenue, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is far more than your typical coffee shop. As the largest Starbucks Reserve in the world, this multi-level destination is a captivating fusion of artisanal coffee craftsmanship, immersive experiences, and elegant design that appeals to both locals and tourists alike.

From the moment you step inside, the Roastery’s thoughtfully curated atmosphere envelopes you. The space blends a chic, almost steampunk-inspired aesthetic with warm, inviting touches—a harmony that strikes the perfect balance between premium sophistication and accessible comfort. Each floor tempts you with unique offerings, whether it’s the aroma of freshly roasted beans, the allure of beautifully crafted pastries, or the enticing buzz of a cocktail bar.

Coffee aficionados will find themselves in paradise here. The Reserve Coffee Bar and Barrel-Aged Coffee Bar offer richly nuanced brews that are the result of skillful roasting and brewing techniques. For those keen to deepen their coffee knowledge, engaging Coffee Flights and immersive Experiences elevate a simple cup to an unforgettable journey of flavor. And for anyone seeking a smooth, indulgent treat, the Cold Brew Malt and Cold Brew Spiced Rum deliver an exciting twist on classic iced coffee.

But it’s not just about the coffee. The Princi Bakery & Café brings an exceptional culinary element to the Roastery, featuring flaky, buttery croissants and an array of delicate pastries that perfectly complement your beverage of choice. Fresh seafood options like the Raw Kusshi Oysters with watermelon radish mignonette and the Hiramasa Crudo with umami mayo and tempura furikake add unexpected yet satisfying savory notes, reflecting a menu that’s thoughtfully elevated. Signature cocktails, such as the Orange Cacao Tempus Fugit or the Mole Spice with ancho chile liqueur, showcase an inventive beverage program that expertly balances complex flavors with a visual flourish, each priced at around $24 to reflect their meticulous craftsmanship.

The multi-level layout offers a unique rhythm to your visit. The second floor impresses with its delightful pastry displays, the fourth floor houses the stylish Arriviamo Cocktail Bar where you can unwind with expertly mixed drinks, and the fifth floor is thoughtfully dedicated to comfort and convenience with spacious restrooms. Visitors rave about the attentive, knowledgeable staff who make you feel welcomed and guide you effortlessly through the menu. Their friendly recommendations—like substituting a hot cocoa for a latte due to dietary sensitivities—underscore the personalized service that defines this destination.

Real customer experiences echo the same vibrant impression. Martha, who visited twice during her Chicago stay, appreciated how smoothly everything flowed and how a simple olive oil croissant introduced her to new flavor dimensions. Ruda Lee admired the stunning aesthetics and the accommodating staff, calling out the miso hot cocoa as a standout drink. Ape Traveler praised the premium but unpretentious vibe and the perfect pairing of coffee and cake, while Tara highlighted the abundance of seating, the nuanced atmosphere across floors, and the consistently delicious quality—making it an ideal spot to work or relax.

In sum, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery on Michigan Avenue is a landmark experience where coffee culture, artisanal food, and creative cocktails converge. Whether you’re a visitor eager to taste and learn or a local looking for a sophisticated yet welcoming retreat, this is a destination that invites exploration and rewards indulgence in equal measure.

During my stay in Chicago, I knew I had to visit the largest Starbucks in the world — the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. Since it was close to my hotel, I actually ended up going twice. On my first visit, everything went smoothly. The line moved quickly, and I enjoyed a delicious coffee along with a pastry made with olive oil — something I had never tried before, but it was surprisingly good. The space itself is huge, beautifully designed, and offers a great view of the Magnificent Mile, making the experience even more special. On my second visit, however, the place was extremely busy. Even though the building has several floors, each one was completely full, so I decided to find another café instead. Still, this is definitely a place you should experience at least once while in Chicago. The coffee was great, the atmosphere was memorable, and overall it was a fun and unique stop.

The place is so aesthetically pleasing and beautiful! There are so many coffee beans, cute merch, nice baked goods and amazing drinks! My favorite was miso hot coco. It was supposed to be latte hut I am lactose intolerant and caffeine sensitive. But the employee was so nice. He recommended hot coco instead of the latte and it was great.

I spent some time at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago, and the experience hit all the right notes. The place has a premium vibe without feeling pretentious. I loved their coffee—rich, smooth, and clearly crafted with intention. The cake I ordered was spot-on and paired perfectly with the brew. I also had a great time browsing their souvenir items; the selection was solid and the prices felt fair for the quality. Overall, it’s a must-visit if you want a polished coffee experience that still feels warm and inviting.

Such a reliably delicious spot. Great coffee and truly amazing pastries whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, dessert, or just a midday treat. The whole place has this beautiful, almost steampunk vibe, and I loved how much seating there is on the upper levels. If I lived in the area, I’d absolutely come here to work regularly.

The Starbucks Reserve in Chicago is truly fascinating. It spans five floors, with the fifth floor primarily dedicated to restrooms. Each level offers something unique the fourth floor features a bar, the second floor showcases pastries, and each floor has its own vibe. The employees are very attentive and greet you as soon as you sit down. I highly recommend visiting, not just for the coffee but for the overall experience. I ordered the Starbucks Reserve Espresso Martini, and it was delicious smooth, creamy, and full of flavor.

My Husband & I have wanted to go here for a couple years and finally made it! It was a wonderful experience. We signed up for the Martini experience and the Roasting & tasting experience. Both were informative and fun! We tried their Caramel Mocha Drizzle Affogato & Caramel Miso Hot Cocoa as a Mocha. The Martini experience included the Starbucks Reserve® Espresso Martini, Starbucks Reserve® Espresso Martini Flight, bites of cookie & house made olive breadstick. The Roasting and tasting experience included some Christmas blend & Chicago blend coffee. We tried their delicious Prosciutto & Parmigiano-Reggiano on Herb Croissant. It was all so delicious and well presented! We definitely suggest you try this! The staff was great, the building was incredible and decorated industrial, Willy Wonka with class.

One of the best Starbucks Reserve locations I’ve ever been to. The wait was long, and unfortunately, they were out of their express drinks due to an issue. Despite this, the ambiance was outstanding, and their pastry collection was tempting and delightful. We decided to try their experimental coffee bar and ordered the whiskey-aged nitro brew and miso hot chocolate. The nitro brew was incredible, with a subtle whiskey flavor without being alcoholic. The hot chocolate was refreshing, fresh, and soothing. Both drinks were a delightful treat. The croissant was fresh and generously filled with chocolate. Overall, I had a fantastic experience, even though we couldn’t order from their regular menu. I’ll definitely return to try more of their unique flavors.

What an incredible experience! The world’s largest Starbucks truly lives up to its name. With four floors to explore, you can wander or relax while enjoying a one-of-a-kind coffee. The space is beautifully designed, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. A special shout-out to Zoey—she was attentive, answered all our questions, and helped us pick out the perfect gifts for friends and family. I thought I had seen it all when I visited the Seattle Roastery (sadly now closed), but this location is absolutely AMAZING! Don’t miss the pastries and food options—they vary from floor to floor, so take a look around before deciding. Trust me, it’s worth the adventure!
